The San Jose Schools community is growing in size and opportunity.
San Jose Early College at Cecil will open for operation in August 2021. It will bring college-prep and career-preparedness education to high school students from Jacksonville’s Westside and portions of Clay County, including Oakleaf, Orange Park and Middleburg. In year one, expect the school to be co-located with Florida State College of Jacksonville at Cecil Center and Kent campuses. These campuses are easily accessible by city bus routes; therefore; families from across Jacksonville are invited to take part in this unique educational program.
San Jose Early College at Cecil follows other successful charter schools run under the umbrella organization, San Jose Schools. San Jose Prep, in operation since 2013, opened its new building this year to middle and high school students at the Mandarin campus (Sunbeam Road). 2020-21 was the inaugural year for San Jose Primary, which serves grades K-5 on the same Mandarin campus (different building). San Jose Cyber Academy will launch this year as a locally run, tuition-free charter Virtual School. Some families may have determined online education best fits their children’s educational needs and/or health demands. We wanted to be sure we could meet the needs of all of our San Jose Schools students.
No matter which school you choose in the San Jose Schools’ growing network, you are receiving these benefits and more:
- A small-school learning environment
- An experienced Student Services Department
- A campus that implements security measures that go above and beyond state law
- Social-emotional learning curriculum
- Hands-on learning strategies with STEAM-driven curriculum (especially for our youngest students)
- A focus on college and career readiness, including a graduation coach assigned to each high school student
- An A-rated educational program with a 100 percent graduation rate
- A school community made up of people who truly care about your child and your family
New in 2021-22, our high schools will launch Career Academies. Career Academies are organized as smaller learning communities within the whole that combine academics with career and tech education (CTE). Each academy is based around a career theme. Students complete industry certifications and work-based learning. Career Academies are in addition to the college preparatory program and Early College opportunity that high school students already take full advantage of at San Jose Prep.
San Jose Early College at Cecil will launch the Academy of Aviation, the Academy of Financial Technology and the Academy of Information Technology. San Jose Prep will launch the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, Academy of Information Technology, Academy of Digital Arts and Design, Academy of Performing Arts and Academy of Early Childhood as of August 2021. Additional CTE opportunities will continue to roll out.
Students who earn industry certifications while enrolled at our high schools will have the necessary credentials to fill job openings immediately upon graduation. Our schools will follow the 10 National Standards of Practice for all academies. This initiative is led by our Superintendent of Schools Mr. Ryan Rewey, who has taught in, overseen or developed noteworthy CTE programs since 2001. Mr. Rewey joined the San Jose Schools in 2021. All educational programs are implemented by our school principals, including Mr. Stabile (San Jose Primary), Ms. Knapp (San Jose Prep), Mr. Hudspeth (San Jose Cecil) and Dr. Allende (San Jose Cyber Academy).
